Lincoln Continental-a long-standing icon of status and class but not something seen often in the classic car market. Who knows why; there are many, many great cars that have not survived the test of time and the fickleness of the market. This 1948 has been lovingly owned by the same person since the mid-60's and he took care to not compromise the integrity of this spectacular car in order to make it a dependable and trustworthy driver. Originally the car came equipped with a V12 engine and column shift 3 speed transmission with overdrive. The column shift OD transmission remains but the V12 has been replaced with a more user-friendly stock 351 Windsor with a 4 bbl carburetor. The owner wanted to be able to drive it and, more importantly, be able to find replacement parts if he were to run into trouble on the road. And this car has been on the road--it was only the summer before last that it was driven to the Chicago area and back. And there is no reason it wouldn't be able to do that again. It drives very well and the ride is superb. Even the manual transmission detracts very little from the drivability--just takes a little extra effort. The interior features custom seat covers in cloth. Nothing gaudy or fancy, understated and classy just like the rest. Other features include hydraulic power windows (yes they work), aftermarket air conditioning, factory gauges in a bold and beautiful dash and AM/FM radio. Air shocks have been added front and rear for an even smoother ride than such a big, heavy car offers naturally. The frame is uncut although a motor cross member has been added to an otherwise stock front end. A 9" Ford rear-end and stock original hub caps and trim rings complete the short-list of attributes. The original stock V12 engine and stock rear end go with the car for those who lean more toward the "purist" end of the classic car spectrum. It's a truly handsome example of historic luxury.
